CAO statement on Vaughan incident

Dec 12, 2022

TORONTO, Dec. 22, 2022 – The Condominium Authority of Ontario would like to express our deep condolences to the residents and families affected by the senseless tragedy that occurred in Vaughan over the weekend.

We are also enormously grateful to the first responders in York Region for their bravery in responding to the tragic situation.

We have received a few calls from condo owners and directors expressing shock and distress over this situation. We encourage condo communities to contact us or visit our website for support with navigating issues in their condominium.

Condominiums are home to Ontarians of all ages and backgrounds and we have a collective responsibility to continue fostering strong communities that are safe.

Since our launch in 2017, the Condo Authority has been steadfastly committed to supporting a strong and vibrant condominium sector. We support condo communities by providing information and education as well as dispute resolution services through our online Condominium Authority Tribunal.

On Jan. 1 of this year the government expanded the Tribunal’s jurisdiction to include hearings about nuisances including noise, odour, light, vibrations, smoke and vapour.
