Public Consultations on the Jurisdiction Expansion of the Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT)

As the Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO) continues to grow and enhance its services further to meet the needs of approximately 1.6-million Ontarians who live in condominium corporations, we are committed to delivering value and making a difference for condominium owners and communities.

The CAO has been asked by the Minister of Government and Consumer Services (the “Minister”) to conduct public consultations this summer/fall on behalf of the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (the “Ministry”) regarding:

  1. Further expanding the CAT’s jurisdiction to encompass additional types of disputes.
  2. Feedback on the CAT’s current processes and any potential best practices the CAT could consider.

To that end, the CAO will be hosting three public virtual roundtable discussions, as well as a virtual roundtable involving Ontario Members of Provincial Parliament.

The virtual roundtables will be roughly two hours in length and will include the following:

  • A background presentation on the CAT;
  • A question-and-answer period of predefined questions; and
  • An open forum for any additional questions and feedback you may have.

The feedback collected at these sessions will inform a report and recommendations to the ministry related to the next phase of Tribunal expansion, and any specific recommendations for related legislative changes, including proclamations and/or supporting regulatory amendments.

To register for a virtual roundtable, please click one of the links below. Each virtual roundtable will begin at 5:30 PM EST on the following dates:

Even if you cannot attend one of the virtual roundtables, you can participate in the CAO’s public consultation process by completing the CAO’s Consultation Feedback Survey. The survey allows you to provide the CAO with your opinions, ideas and suggestions regarding the CAT’s jurisdiction and processes.

The Survey:

  • Includes questions about the CAT’s jurisdiction and processes;
  • Should take between 15 – 30 minutes to complete; and,
  • Can be completed anonymously.

Click here to complete the CAO’s Consultation Feedback Survey.

We request that you complete the survey by October 25, 2021.

We look forward to receiving your valuable input into the expansion of the CAT’s jurisdiction. Please note that individuals who attend the roundtable will be asked to fill out the CAO’s Consultation Feedback Survey after attending the roundtable, as not every attendee may have the opportunity to speak during the event.

Note: If you have any questions or technical difficulties with the survey, please contact the CAO for assistance.
