Delivering the Notice

Once the CAT accepts your application, your next step is to deliver the Notice of Case to the Respondent. The Notice lets the Respondent know you’ve filed and includes instructions they will need to join the case. This step is very important, and your case cannot begin until the CAT knows that you have given the Respondent the Notice.

Steps to Deliver the Notice

Step 1. Download the Notice

Once the CAT has reviewed and accepted your application, you will receive an email notification. Your first step is to access your case in the CAT-ODR system and download the Notice. You can access your case by clicking on the “Access” button on the Tribunal’s website. Once you’ve accessed your case, you can download the Notice by clicking on “Invitations.”

First, you must log into an existing CAO account or create a new account.

Step 2. Deliver the Notice

Once you’ve downloaded the Notice, your next step is to deliver it. You can deliver the Notice to the Respondent by:

  1. Personally giving it to:
  • a member of the condominium corporation’s board of directors; or,
  • the condominium corporation’s condominium manager.

  1. Sending it by regular mail to:
  • the condominium corporation’s address for service, as shown in the CAO’s Public Registry; or,
  • the address for service for the condominium corporation’s condominium manager or condominium management service provider, as shown in the CAO’s Public Registry.

Step 3. Confirm you delivered the Notice

After you have delivered the Notice to the Respondent, you must log back into your case and confirm how and when you delivered it. You can do this by clicking on the “Confirm Delivery” button.

Once the Respondent joins the case, the case will automatically move into Stage 1 – Negotiation.

If the Respondent does not join the case after you give them the Notice, you will receive a notification from us with instructions about what to do next.
