BACKGROUND

The Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO) is a newly established organization with legislative authority under the Condominium Act, 1998, that aims to improve condominium living by providing services and resources for condo owners. These include:

  • easy-to-use information, templates and guides that explain rights and responsibilities set out in legislation affecting condominiums;
  • guided steps to help stakeholders resolve common issues early and on their own;
  • online dispute resolution services through the Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT);
  • condominium director training;
  • systems for condominium corporations to file their condominium returns and notices of change;
  • searchable public registry to display prescribed information contained in the CAO’s database from filed returns and notices of change.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This role is a 6 months contract with an option of extension.

The successful candidate will support a variety of strategic communications initiatives to engage and educate Ontario consumers. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with proven special events, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills. Responsibilities will vary and may include developing marketing communications collateral and content. The Communications Specialist will have a strong project and process mindset to support key projects on the communications team. The ideal candidate enjoys getting things done, has an eye for detail and is passionate about playing a role in helping the team achieve their milestones on time and within budget.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Working closely with colleagues in the communication team to ensure all projects are on track
  • Understanding the business aspects of initiatives in order to effectively contribute to the operational success of the group
  • Building relationships and effectively collaborating with a variety of stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and externally with vendors where necessary.
  • Ensure proactive project delivery within allotted budget and timelines, and providing regular status updates
  • Draft corporate communications materials, including articles, presentations, handouts, and other collateral
  • Support corporate, government, and partner events with advisories, releases, speaking notes, and other deliverables

Responsible for event management initiatives, including securing booths, obtaining speaking opportunities, and coordinating set-up and teardown.

QUALIFICATIONS: SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Completed post-secondary education in Public Relations or Communications
  • 3-5 years of related experience;
  • Or the equivalent combination of education and experience working in a similar role.
  • Excellent research, interviewing, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to translate technical/regulatory concepts into common language of interest to general audience
  • Time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize under pressure and on tight timelines
  • Proficient in MS Office tools
  • Advanced knowledge of web and social media analytics tools such as Google Analytics
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise working with content management systems
  • Bilingualism an asset
